Treatment Approach

Collaborative & Compassionate

I particularly enjoy helping couples break out of negative communication patterns and find their own words to express emotion and desires, free of the blame and judgment that can become so habitual.  I am very active in sessions, empowering clients to try out new ways to engage and understand their partner and take ‘relationship risks’ in a safe environment. Similarly, I love helping individuals reduce anxiety and depression by empowering them to approach situations that feel threatening, in order to expand the opportunities they have in their daily lives. The greatest gains can be made via developing a nonjudgmental environment in which we increase understanding of what motivates you, what obstacles stand in the way of your goals, and empower you to apply strategies you learn to maximize your success in relationships, communication, and career.  Within this overarching framework, I apply Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Gottman-Method Couples Therapy.

Evidence-Based

I have specialized training in research-derived interventions & strategies that help you express emotions in an adaptive, effective way, change dysfunctional thoughts and behaviors, and reach your goals. I believe it is important to balance the use of research-based clinical methods with a flexible, collaborative approach that prioritizes your goals and values.

Mindfulness-Informed

The foundation of an effective treatment relationship is a nonjudgmental, compassionate and present-focused stance. I maintain a mindfulness practice in my personal and professional life and help you strengthen mindfulness skills, to decrease reactivity and increase a balanced perspective, when appropriate.

Success Outside of Session

A successful treatment outcome doesn't stop in the session.
The true test of effective therapy is when behavioral changes
are made where its needed most:  in your everyday life
